Marijke talks about her collaboration with Elvira, in which a surprising number of elements came together naturally. Their connection lies not only in the formal aspects of drawing—black and white, light, and line—but above all in their shared approach to exploration. Marijke’s work is characterized by meaningful experimentation and layering, which continually influences their collaborative process.
By working back and forth, visiting each other’s studios, and experimenting together with installations, a continuous mutual influence emerged. The damaged drawings, in which lines are altered in various ways or even seem to disappear, provided an important impetus. They prompted Elvira to rethink sculptural drawing. Thus, a continuous mutual influence emerged.
According to Marijke, what is now on view is merely the tip of the iceberg. In the exhibition *Buddies ’26*, that kinship becomes visible: a kindred creative spirit, in which encounter, openness, and the act of creation itself take center stage.
