Jacqueline Loeve

Jacqueline Loeve

Jacqueline works three days a week at Atelier Herenplaats since 1999. She also works at a children’s menagerie. The animals were very often the basis for her artwork. Visits to the zoo and nature museum are much loved activities.
Besides drawing nature Jacqueline draws her own comic stories in black and white. These form the basis for her paintings. She picks a fragment of a story, projects it on a canvas, traces and paints it. She often adds text bubbles with cryptic texts to her painting.
After a period of drawing Chinese characters in her comics, Jacqueline now takes us on a journey through the world of alien creatures and unknown planets. She shows us situations and adds her textual comments. These texts, meant to clarify the situations, actually add a new layer of mystery.
Like Pop Artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, who used comics and commercial images in their work, Jacqueline confronts us with a fragment of a larger whole.
